5 Habits Of Highly-Productive People

The CEOs, the entrepreneurs, the athletes–they get the same 24 hours in a day; 365 days a year, and yet… It seems like they just get way more things crossed off on their to-do list than the rest of us. What’s their secret? Well, you’re in for a treat today because this article is going to delve into the top 5 habits all highly-productive people have.

#1 – Plan their days in advance

Those who get the most out of their days are meticulous about planning and scheduling their days. For reference: Bill Gates is known to break his day down into 5-minute increments! Highly-productive people know that if they don't plan their day, something else will come along and do it for them.

So, learn to plan your day the night before; outline what you have to do with a task list and sort by priority. This way, you have greater control over your schedule.

#2 – Practice mindfulness

After interviewing 140 people at the top of their fields for his book, ‘Tribe of Mentors,’ Tim Ferriss found that the vast majority of respondents followed a mindfulness or meditation practice. And that’s not a surprise. Mindfulness practices are known to have a positive effect on the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for emotions, fight or flight responses, and memory.

Mindfulness can help people respond in a calm, controlled manner–a characteristic that highly-productive individuals inevitably need to succeed. It's time to pick up a mindfulness practice if you haven't already!

#3 – Use tools to handle the minutiae

If there are always new tasks, new projects, and new work popping up over the day for you… Then the same must also apply to the most productive people around. The only difference? They always find the most efficient ways to complete the tasks. They use tools that help simplify or more effectively manage routine processes to get more hours during the day.

So, where are you losing the most time during the day? Is it while clearing your inbox? Because you can bet, there's a tool that'll streamline the process for you.

#4 – Keep a distraction list to stay focused

We’ve all been there. Despite our best efforts to stay focused on a priority, we still catch ourselves completing random, unrelated tasks (e.g. paying the electricity bills for the month).

There's an easy solution for this. And that is a distractions list. Write down whatever distractions pop up into mind–then get right back into work. This way, they can review the list after and decide if they need to take action on those things. A major time-saver. Try it out!

#5 – Follow daily routines

What you do consistently matters more than what you do sporadically. And so, highly-productive people tend to be pretty big on daily routines. A daily routine helps to instil a sense of purpose, peace, and ritual to your day–and ensures that you're getting everything that needs to be done, done.

What does this mean for you? Well, if you don’t have a set daily routine, it’s probably a good idea to start now. Need help with that?
